Initio Usb Default Controller Driver For Mac

I need some help. I have a HP pavillion a110n thats right at 8 years old. Now, most people read this and say,., time to junk it, but i have spent the last 8 years tending and working with this machine just to throw it away. Which is why i came here. Everything with the exception of the printer and audio/video card is stock. 2.19 GHz 1gig RAM, 232gb Hard drive, windows xp media center edition version 2002 SP3. I recently took the hard drive out of my laptop after the screen was damaged, and placed it into a HDD case.

Plugged it in, worked fine. Formatted it and everything.

Then, a week later, my computer stopped reading it. Thought it was the HDD case. Then, a week ago, a buddy in iraq sent me HIS Seagate FreeDesk Client 500 GB HDD cause it quit working. Plugged it in correctly and everything. Comptuer found it and installed drivers, but i still cant find it anywhere on my computer, even Device Manager, and the Seagate Manager software cant find it either. Now i am begining to believe its my computer.

A friend of mine says it sounds like i have/had a virus of some sort that is disabling my drives. But wouldnt that stop it from reading flash drives too?

Short of taking it back to factory specs and retrying everything (as well as losing everything on my computer!!:( ) i dont know what to do. USB flash drives read perfectly. Is there a way to remove ALL the drivers for my USB drives (6 total on my system) and start from scratch? If u need more info, please let me know. Thanks again. External drives are not recognized in 'My Computer' or Device Manager, but USB thumb drives work just fine. How are the externals powered?

My first thought is that your ancient relic might not have enough power to make the wheels & gears in the external spin. Do the external drives work in another computer? Are the external drives recognized in BIOS? Are the thumb drives recognized in BIOS? Start Control Panel Administrative Tools Computer Management Disk Management Can you see the external drive(s) there? Download and burn a Hiren's CD and boot to the mini-XP.

Can you see the externals there? I assume you have tried plugging them into various places. I doubt there is a selectively preventing USB drive recognition virus, but your friend gets 5 points for creativity. Do you have any other reason to suspect infection? Alright ben, thanks for quick response.

To answer your 1st question: the HDD i bought for my laptop HD is an Antec -MX-25 2.5' Hard Drive Enclosure which is USB powered, but comes with an optional 2nd USB for use when moving larger data. Manual says to only use the 2nd when absolutely needed.

The other HDD is wall powered, and i have made sure that the plug is directly in the wall, eliminating any in betweens. Second question: No i am afraid that i dont have another computer to try them in, so i cant rule the possibility that it IS my computer out just yet. Third question: no they are not. When looking at my BIOS the thumb drives (tried 7 of them) show up just fine, everytime, but neither of the HDD's do. As for the Hirens cd, can i move it to a flash drive, and boot the computer from it at the boot menu?? And your final question: yes.

I tried all 6 of my USB ports, none of which give me a different response on the HDD's. Now, when i look at the Device manager, under the Universal Serial Bus controllers, there are a whole SLEW of things there, only 1 of which i recognize, my USB printer. Maybe getting rid of some of them would help?? And under the controllers is an expandable UNKNOWN, which has a bunch of things in it as well. If u want a list, i will supply it. Thanks again for the quick response. Remove all USB devices, and uninstall USB devices from Device Manager, and reboot.

Hopefully clean the slate and maybe fix the problem. Uninstall the 'unknown' thing too. Uninstall the USB printer also, unplug it and keep it off-system while troubleshooting. Keep ALL unnecessary hardware off system. The USB powered HD confirms my theory. Post the make, model & power output of the ancient relic's power supply. I'd stop trying to get the USB powered drive to work, and focus only on the self-powered one.

It may be normal for an external to not show in BIOS. Yes, I think you can boot Hirens from thumbdrive but I've never done it. Can you get the self-powered external drive to show in Start Control Panel Administrative Tools Computer Management Disk Management? Is there a BIOS update available for the ancient relic? Put bullets (of some sort, hyphens will do) next to your answers please, for easier review.

Any reason to suspect infection? Has the machine had any other odd symptoms prior to this calamity? Check Event Viewer. Report any errors or warnings that may be related, such as services failing to start.

Is Plug & Play running? You have NO way to test the self-powered external on another computer? How about that kid down the street, the one you threw rocks at years ago? He may have forgiven you by now. Ok, so i have given up on the self powered USB drive.
